A long slow dinner with friends on the patio…finding out about the ‘best place nobody knows about’ to watch fireworks on the 4th…calm, cool air and a sunset that takes forever…the swallows on the porch that still haven’t left the nest…an almost full moon…a 5–year old in his underwear in the backyard at dusk catching lightning bugs…laughing with my brother on the phone and making plans to spend a few precious hours together tomorrow…that little camisole thing she wears in bed when she’s reading her Francine Rivers novel before she goes to sleep…and this.
Question for Christians:
Do you trust that God loves you? Everybody says, oh yes, I’ve known that for a long time. Then just watch the way they live. There’s so much fear, so much anxiety, and so much self-hatred. Faith is a code to accept that Jesus knows my whole life story, every skeleton in my closet, every moment of sin, shame, dishonesty, degradedness darkening my past. Right now he knows my shallow faith, my feeble prayer life, my inconsistent discipleship, and he comes beside me and he says, I dare you to trust. I dare you to trust that I love you, just as you are and not as you should be, because you’re never going to be as you should be. --Brennan Manning
This is how much...
...God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why?
